about

After finding a mic configuration that i liked, these tracks are the first 4 bits i improvised and recorded. Having just moved in to a new studio that we had built from scratch, i felt like starting pure, returning to the drum kit and its wealth of tonalities, leaving behind my microphones and amplifier feedback and all the foreign objects used over the last 25 years to evoke exotic (hopefully) sounds. Just sit down at the kit and start playing, and let each sound suggest the next one.

for all the inspiration, i give thanks to William Hooker, Milford Graves, Andrew Cyrille, Elvin Jones, Rashied Ali, Famoudou Don Moye, and Han Bennink. (Famoudou Don Moye is the only one i haven't had the pleasure to see in person)
